Required items
Cross-country mountain bike (proper working order)
Bike helmet (proper fit and good condition)
Gloves (preferably full-fingered)
Spare inner tubes (even if you are running tubeless tires)
Closed-toe shoes (no sandals)
Water bottles or hydration pack
Hand Pump or CO2 (with inflator head)

Multi-tool (w/ chain breaker if possible)

Cycling computer - Tracking your training is training smart
Heart rate monitor - Another way to track your training stress and progress
Chain lube - Keeping your drivetrain clean will prevent you from having to replace parts frequently
Pump with pressure gauge - Tires lose their pressure daily—low tire pressure is the #1 reason for flats. Pressure should be between 18-25 psi for most athletes depending on tubes or tubeless setup and athlete weight.
